Not a ghost..in the window
Going inside!
If you have been following my blog, you have seen many pictures of our property. All total there are 13 buildings here, I call it our "mini-village". When we first looked at this property 4 years ago we walked around and took pictures of it, and then emailed family for their opinions. There is a lot to this property and it keeps us busy.
My husband and I fell in love with this place right away. When I told my mother that our offer was accepted she had seen pictures of all the buildings ,and our house, I had told her how old everything was, and one of her first questions was "are you scared that the place may spook you"? Hmmm....I thought, and well honestly yes I was scared. The property was beautiful by day, but I thought what if I have to go outside at night? How am I going to sit in my living room and stare out the window looking at that old creepy house - will our children be forever traumatized????
I had about 2 months of lying in bed at night wondering if I would be freaked out before we actually moved in here. The house in these pictures (obviously not the one that we live in) was built in 1886. It was the original farmhouse on the property. If you go inside you will see a very narrow front hall and those steep stairs. Windows are broken and the floor has completely caved in due to the fact that in the 1950's they used this house as grain storage and mis-calculated the weight and the floor collapsed. You can see written on the walls scribbled dates and weights of chicken feed. I have only been upstairs once, which is one large room and you can still faintly see old painted stenciling high up on the walls. In the two downstairs room's there is an old broken chair and a very old shoe.
Currently we use a room now that has been converted into an old garage for wood storage. During the day we will be in there stacking wood, and you can hear birds fluttering around inside the house. Whenever I peak into other parts of the house it reminds me of the last scene of The Blair Witch Project - you know that old house in the woods.
However, to be real honest, since we have lived here on our property I have never been freaked out or scared. Our home has been warm and inviting. At night the property is calm and peaceful and I have been outside by myself at night and have been fine. The girls and I have spent a lot of time looking out the window into that old house. We see squirrels running in and out, raccoons hanging on the eves, and even a barn owl. I do not let the girls walk inside the house , because it is just yucky and dirty in there. Our "dream" is to someday restore that old house, the foundation and the old beams are beautiful and actually in pretty good shape.
In the meantime, as the girls get older I will probably start to decorate it like a haunted house for Halloween. It is eerie yet beautiful. Hope you enjoyed this post and a little more info on that housue...... and Happy Halloween!
